Homemade chocolate fudge brownie on a white plate beside a frothy latte

The Best Homemade Fudge Brownies

January 28, 2026•3 min read

When I say these are the BEST fudge brownies, I am not exaggerating!

They are seriously the yummiest brownies I've ever made.

Okay, they may also be the first brownies I've ever made from scratch... but that's neither here nor there. 😂

I've certainly eaten plenty of brownies over the years, and this recipe is definitely in my top five!

These are rich, chocolatey, and perfectly fudgy, with that beautiful shiny, slightly crackly top.

They're PERFECT for a snowed-in day, especially with a homemade latte by the fire.

And if you're lucky enough to have that good, fluffy snow (instead of the icy mess Tennessee seems to love giving us), you could even whip up some homemade snow cream to go with them!

But that's a recipe for another day and another snowfall.

For now, we're going to appreciate what we have, enjoy the slower pace, and make something delicious.

Give these a try. You won't regret it!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional, for my fellow coffee lovers!)

  • ¾ cup butter

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

  • 1⅓ cups granulated sugar, divided

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 large egg yolk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • ¾ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 × 9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. Mix the dry ingredients. In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, cocoa powder, and espresso powder (if using). Set aside.

  3. Melt the butter mixture. In a small saucepan, combine the butter, coconut oil, and ⅓ cup of the sugar. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts. Remove from the heat and allow it to cool slightly.

  4. Whisk the eggs and sugar. In a large mixing bowl, combine the two eggs, additional egg yolk, vanilla extract, and remaining 1 cup of sugar. Whisk until well combined.

  5. Combine the wet ingredients. Slowly pour the warm butter mixture into the egg mixture, whisking continuously until everything is incorporated.

  6. Add the dry ingredients and chocolate chips. Gently fold them in with a rubber spatula until just combined. Don't overmix! That's one of the secrets to keeping these brownies fudgy instead of cakey.

  7. Fill your pan. Scrape the batter into your prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

  8. Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the top looks shiny and slightly cracked. The center should be set but still moist. Check with a toothpick; a few moist crumbs are fine, but there shouldn't be wet batter.

  9. Let them cool. Place the pan on a cooling rack before cutting into squares.

Now for the Best Part!

Pour yourself a cup of coffee, grab a brownie, and enjoy a little chocolate happiness!

Even better? Share them with someone you love.

Because sometimes the best memories at home are made over something as simple as a warm brownie and a good conversation.

Happy baking!
